Summary: This isn't anything new in metaphysics
Comment: Chopra's vision of Jesus isn't anything new in the world of metaphysics. Paramahamsa Yogananda, Edgar Cayce, and A Course In Miracles say exactly the same thing. Look up their books on amazon. I think it was important for Chopra to reiterate what others have already said because he can bring this knowledge to the masses since so many people have heard about him and many eagerly wait to read his next book release. He has written so many books.

It is important to remember that no matter how many times this info gets put out there, hardcore narrow minded Christians will never agree with this interpretation of Jesus. They have been brainwashed in their churches to believe the way they do out of fear of going to hell or fear that God will get mad at them. It doesn't bother me for I know one day we will all realize the God within us, our ONENESS with Him and everything in the Universe, and be with him in Heaven forever. If we all come from God, then it is His plan for us to all go back to Him eventually. Even the demons that roam the earth must return to God, for he created them too, and He loves them just as much as any being he created in the beginning of time.

Summary: Jesus is for everyone
Comment: I'm always interested in books on Jesus. Some authors take their liberties more than others. Some staunch supporters of the New Testament will stamp their feet. Jesus told us to go and spread the word. Some writters interpret that differently than others.
By the way there is a beautiful new book on Jesus entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone" by John H. Eagan. I just finished it. It's really great and deals with Jesus' teachings and His Passion so deeply it will bring you to tears as it did me.

Summary: Very Insightful.....But
Comment: This book has a very interesting take on the enlightened Christ and how we are held to even higher standards of finding the Kingdom of God than I would say many churches expect of us. Compassion, understanding, and reverence for Christ's teachings can be seen in this book.

However, my problem with this book stems from the use of gnostic texts. If you are like me and believe that the canonical Gospels are the authoritative texts as to what Jesus said, then it gets a little disturbing that sayings only found in gnostic texts like The Gospel of Thomas or the Aprocryphon of Jesus (is this a mistake, but I haven't heard of such a book at all??) are used like the scriptures in this book. And the use of such texts is odd because Deepak Chopra claims no relationship to any form of Gnosticism on page 32 of The Third Jesus.

If you are not like me, and can overlook these gnostic verses then this book is quite a worthwhile read for the thinking Christian.

Summary: An alternate opinion.
Comment: Chopra offers his alternate views on the life and teachings of Christ. I have a sneaking suspicion that the intent of which may be shock and awe? Regardless however, if you like Chopra, you'll like this at least as much if not more than normal. It won't bore the loyalists. Some will be outraged and yet others will simply be fine in their own faith. It's very well written as usual, but I doubt it will sway anyone from the positions they held prior to reading it. It's Chopra; you know what you're getting.

Summary: Deepak Chopra = Apologist for Islamic Terrorists
Comment: This is the blockhead who recently blamed the victims, along with US foreign policy, for the recent Mumbai terrorist attack. Do you really want to read a book by this crass opportunist who has no real insight into religion and world?

Editorial Reviews:

Who is Jesus Christ?

In The Third Jesus, bestselling author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra provides an answer to this question that is both a challenge to current systems of belief and a fresh perspective on what Jesus can teach us all, regardless of our religious background. There is not one Jesus, Chopra writes, but three.

First, there is the historical Jesus, the man who lived more than two thousand years ago and whose teachings are the foundation of Christian theology and thought. Next there is Jesus the Son of God, who has come to embody an institutional religion with specific dogma, a priesthood, and devout believers. And finally, there is the third Jesus, the cosmic Christ, the spiritual guide whose teaching embraces all humanity, not just the church built in his name. He speaks to the individual who wants to find God as a personal experience, to attain what some might call grace, or God-consciousness, or enlightenment.

When we take Jesus literally, we are faced with the impossible. How can we truly “love thy neighbor as thyself”? But when we see the exhortations of Jesus as invitations to join him on a higher spiritual plane, his words suddenly make sense.

Ultimately, Chopra argues, Christianity needs to overcome its tendency to be exclusionary and refocus on being a religion of personal insight and spiritual growth. In this way Jesus can be seen for the universal teacher he truly is–someone whose teachings of compassion, tolerance, and understanding can embrace and be embraced by all of us.
